Technical Officer (Drydock)
As a Technical Officer – Drydock at BSM, you will be responsible for handling the drydock preparation for BSM-managed vessels efficiently and promptly. Supports the Fleet Manager/TSI and dry dock Superintendent to ensure timely preparation of vessels docking with regards to specification building, and yard quotation. Assesses and reports the completion of preparation together with the TSI in charge. Supports the Company’s maintenance and repair strategies to achieve defined targets and goals
Key Responsibilities :
Reporting & Coordination :
Monitor all upcoming vessel dockings within the fleet for the calendar year.
Track progress of planned dockings and ensure timely execution.
Support preparation and monitoring of:
Docking specifications
Yard quotations and responses
Yard comparisons and evaluations
Maintain and update DDM PAL for each vessel.
Collaborate with DDS and TSI to collate and verify data inputs in DDM Services.
Docking Services Support :
Follow up on docking plans and arrangements made by the Technical Superintendent.
Track progress and identify deviations or delays in the planning process.
Alert TSI and DDS on any shortcomings or risks in advance.
Ensure proper communication and adherence to established docking procedures.
Escalate any obstacles or risks to the M&R Manager and DDS.
Coordinate with shipyard business managers in collaboration with the TSI.
Advise TSI on missing steps or process gaps in drydock planning
Shipyard Coordination :
Ensure all yard quotations are received, completed, and updated in the DDM system within agreed timelines.
Maintain continuous communication with shipyards for missing or pending information.
Coordinate with DDS and update TSI on any issues impacting:
Docking preparation
Competitive evaluation of shipyards
Budget planning and cost control
PAL System Utilization :
Actively utilize PAL modules, including:
PMS (Planned Maintenance System)
Purchase
Certification
Voyage
Drydock
Provide feedback to improve functionality and efficiency of PAL modules.
Support TSI and DDS through effective use of digital tools and systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in:
Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture, with shipyard experience,
OR
Certificate of Competency:
Second Mate / Third Engineer (or equivalent)
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in:
Ship management or ship ownership companies
Shipyard workshop / newbuilding projects
Purchasing and supply chain within maritime industry
Experience in shipping industry is highly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of vessel systems and drydocking requirements
Good understanding of shipyard processes and docking procedures
Ability to analyze quotations and technical specifications
Strong coordination and communication skills
Proficiency in maritime software systems (e.g., PAL, DDM)
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Problem-solving and proactive risk identification skills
