Fleet Personnel Manager - SMC IN
Lead a diverse crew, safeguard safety and compliance, and strengthen ship-to-shore connections while driving efficient, values-driven maritime operations.
As a Fleet Personnel Manager at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of vessel human resources, aligning crewing operations with strategic goals, and fostering strong connections between ship and shore. This role is pivotal in safeguarding compliance, enhancing safety culture, and supporting operational excellence through the recruitment, training, and development of seafarers while maintaining trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic alignment – Contribute to the development of short- and long-term objectives to ensure compliance with organizational goals.
Crew management – Review contractual agreements, assess manning needs, and develop annual manning plans for efficient vessel operations.
Recruitment oversight – Ensure timely and compliant recruitment in line with legislation, flag requirements, and quality standards.
Rotation planning – Manage relief and lay-off procedures to maintain continuous vessel operations.
Training development – Identify training requirements, oversee course completion, and promote a strong safety culture.
Loss prevention – Implement safety policies, monitor accident trends, and propose corrective actions to reduce human factor risks.
Problem solving – Address behavioral and skill-related issues, ensuring solutions that protect company image and seafarer well-being.
Client relations – Communicate crew efficiency updates, implement corrective actions, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Compliance monitoring – Stay updated on employment laws, initiate contract changes, and support legitimate operations.
Department efficiency – Monitor performance, propose improvements, and ensure cost-effective operations.
Audit support – Facilitate audits, follow up on findings, and apply corrective actions related to human factors.
Resource management – Develop and oversee budgets, identify cost savings, and ensure compliance with targets.
Team leadership – Train, develop, and motivate staff to achieve departmental objectives effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
Education – Degree in maritime studies, human resources, or related field.
Certifications – Relevant maritime or HR certifications preferred.
Experience – Proven experience in crew management, maritime HR, or related operational roles.
