As an Accounting Intern at BSM, you will support the finance team with day-to-day accounting tasks, month-end activities, and ongoing process improvement initiatives. This is an entry-level internship designed to provide practical, hands-on experience across core accounting functions and exposure to commercial ship management finance operations. You will work under the supervision of qualified accountants and receive mentoring to develop technical skills and commercial awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with processing invoices, expense claims and supplier payments, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company procedures.
Support accounts receivable activities including preparing customer invoices, reconciling payments and following up on overdue balances.
Help maintain the general ledger by posting journals, reconciling accounts and assisting with bank reconciliations.
Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities, including compiling schedules and supporting variance analysis.
Support the preparation of financial reports and management packs, ensuring data is complete and well-documented.
Assist with VAT, tax and statutory reporting tasks as required and support audits by preparing supporting documentation.
Participate in process improvement projects and documentation of accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and control.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, crewing, procurement) to resolve accounting queries and ensure accurate charge allocation.
Qualifications & Experience
Currently studying for a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or a related discipline.
Basic understanding of accounting principles (double-entry bookkeeping) and familiarity with Excel.
Can render atleast 300 hours and work at Quirino, Malate, Manila.
Skills & Competencies
Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
Analytical mindset with the ability to spot discrepancies and suggest appropriate actions.
Good communication skills, able to liaise with colleagues across functions in a professional manner.
Proactive, willing to learn and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Confident with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Navision, Xero) is an advantage.
Fluency in English required.
