Electrical Training Superintendent
Lead and elevate electrical training at BSM — design, deliver and improve safe, compliant ship operations with hands-on trainer support, simulators, and audits.
As an Electrical Training Superintendent at BSM, you will lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of electrical training programmes that support safe, compliant and efficient ship operations. You will act as the primary shore-based electrical training expert, collaborating with Technical Superintendents, crewing, operational teams and external providers to ensure seafarers receive up-to-date, role-specific electrical instruction and assessment that meets statutory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure efficient facilitation and running of relevant courses.
Ensure close coordination of activities with the MTC Manager as well as communication with SMC, CSC and other BSM departments as authorized, regarding training needs.
Delivery of training within a quality-assured environment, leading to improved safety and performance within the BSM Fleet.
Ensure learning transfer is achieved by the use of evaluation and assessment of seafarers.Ensure compliance with internal and external quality assurance systems.
Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of training, training facilities and the quality systems.
Carry out training in other BSM MTC and any other areas assigned on BSM’s behalf, and also where appropriate with third party training institutions.
Participate in ship visits or sailing periods on board BSM vessels as assigned to maintain currency of skills. Support the On Board Training team as required with vessel visits.
Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and records of all the simulators, automation/hydraulic and other electrical trainers. .
Take personal responsibility to keep informed on industry trends and BSM revisions affecting training needs and inputs.
Ensure budget consciousness in all activities and seek approval for spending through the Director / Manager as appropriate and as applicable to the Group’s overall strategies and quality procedures.
Carry out assigned secondary duties in accordance with local procedures and MTC managers instructions.
Participate in the development of the MTC Annual Training Plan incorporating the MTC utilization in line with the MTC management review under ISO 9001 as may be amended. Keep the plan updated with relevant inputs and keep relevant parties informed of changes t any upcoming training schedules.
Preparation for annual internal audits and external audits (as applicable) for procedural verification to ensure areas of responsibility are performed as required by quality procedures.
Prepare and provide information for input into the annual budgets as required.
Participate in Fleet Officer’s Meetings within the MTC region to provide an effective platform for ship and shore-based organizations to exchange information, address identified areas of concern and to intensify bonding with the Seafarers.
Supervise the IT assistant in the upkeep and maintenance of our all-computer systems and wifi network facilities and electrical connections.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Electronic or Marine Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
Minimum 3 years’ sea-going electrical experience (preferably as Chief Electrician/Chief Engineer with significant electrical responsibility) or 3+ years’ shore-based experience in electrical training or technical superintendent role within ship management.
Familiarity with maritime regulations and standards relating to electrical systems, high voltage operations and safe working practices.
Relevant instructional or assessor qualifications (e.g. Train the Trainer, Cert IV/TQUK or equivalent) desirable.
IMO Model Course 6.09 – Training course for instructors, or equivalent.
IMO Model Course 6.10 – Train the simulator trainer and assessor (applicable to MTC periods).

Skills & Competencies
A thorough knowledge of Electrical and Electronics systems, concepts and theories.
▪ A thorough knowledge of current and impending maritime legislation.
▪ A thorough knowledge of maritime training and development needs.
▪ An understanding of Andragogy (adult learning theory)
▪ A comprehensive understanding of evaluation and assessment techniques.
▪ A thorough working knowledge and understanding of STCW as amended.
▪ A thorough understanding of MLC 2006 as amended
▪ Knowledge of current and emerging trends and concepts in training.
▪ Good communication and presentation skills.
▪ Fluency in English.
▪ PC / Microsoft Office literate (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
▪ A thorough working knowledge of the PAL system.
