Business Development Executive
As a Business Development Executive at BSM, you will be responsible for supporting the commercial, budgeting, and customer management processes that strengthen the connection between ship and shore. You will drive the development and analysis of vessel OPEX budgets, maintain critical business intelligence resources, and provide data-driven insights that enhance decision-making, customer engagement, and business development performance.
Key Responsibilities
Review vessel OPEX budget proposals prior to submission, recommend improvements, and highlight proposals that do not meet pricing or OPEX requirements.
Maintain a central repository of all submitted budgets and perform analysis to improve future pricing and OPEX proposals.
Drive the development of the Vessel OPEX Budgeting Tool to support preparation and benchmarking of OPEX budgets.
Manage, update, and improve the Excel-based OPEX budgeting working file used for budgeting activities.
Manage, update, and enhance the standard Budget Proposal template used for customer offers.
Analyse competitor budgets and benchmark budget proposals accordingly.
Conduct analysis and benchmarking of OPEX performance using internal and external data sources.
Provide analytical OPEX and general business development support when required.
Support the annual customer satisfaction survey, including preparation, distribution, feedback collection, analysis, and development of result summaries.
Provide user support for the CRM system, including user guidance, data quality monitoring, and report and dashboard design.
Support development and implementation of enhancements to systems and processes related to customer data management.
Provide data-focused support for business development activities, including research, monitoring, analysis, and preparation of performance summaries.
Maintain effective working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to support customer management objectives.
Manage, update, and further develop centralised competitor fleet overviews to support lead generation and business development.
Manage, update, and enhance the centralised newbuild orderbook database.
Prepare and maintain ship owner fleet overviews for customers and make them available to relevant personnel.
Prepare and update Port State Control performance overviews for use in lead generation and performance benchmarking.
Prepare and update owner and fleet analyses by country to support targeted business development initiatives.
Assist in preparing competitor profiles covering fleet composition, customer portfolios, service offerings, and performance indicators.
Distribute news and market reports internally in a timely manner.
Conduct ad-hoc research and prepare reports requested by management or business development colleagues.
Maintain oversight of entries in the vessel register related to incoming and outgoing vessels and liaise with relevant personnel for corrections.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or qualification from an accredited university or college.
Good understanding of the shipping industry and experience in vessel OPEX budgeting matters.
Skills & Competencies
Fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong administrative, time management, and project management capabilities.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and effective use of internet research tools.
Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, curiosity, and an interest in process optimisation.
Able to work independently and manage workload effectively.
