Buyer - (SMC DE)
Ensure smooth vessel operations by managing cost‑effective procurement and timely delivery of essential supplies.
As a Buyer at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of goods and services essential to vessel operations. This role plays a strategic part in connecting ship and shore by supporting technical and operational needs, optimizing supplier performance, and safeguarding the timely delivery of critical equipment and materials. Your contribution will directly enhance operational reliability and strengthen BSM’s supply chain through SMC DE.
Key Responsibilities
Support vessels’ purchasing needs, including stores, spare parts, and technical equipment, based on requisitions and voyage requirements.
Ensure procurement is conducted with approved vendors at contracted prices; negotiate with non-contracted vendors when necessary to optimize costs.
Identify and report potential discrepancies in supply to enable corrective action.
Plan and coordinate delivery of goods to vessels in the most cost-effective manner, monitoring pending requirements and back orders.
Provide vessels with regular updates on purchase progress, requisition changes, and delivery plans.
Deliver feedback to SMC DE on supplier performance to improve quality of goods and services.
Maintain and update assigned category lists in the database, reflecting vessel requests, order frequency, and removal of redundant items.
Resolve issues related to quality, quantity, condition, or missed deliveries by liaising with vessels, suppliers, and relevant stakeholders.
Verify invoices and accounts against purchasing and delivery documentation, preparing prepayment vouchers when applicable.
Utilize company systems to support vessel and superintendent needs, providing feedback to enhance system utility.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business or Accounting, or equivalent.
4–6 years of purchasing or supply chain management experience, preferably within the shipping industry.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of vessels’ technical requirements and operational needs.
Familiarity with suppliers and contractors supporting vessel operations.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Fluency in English.
Proficiency in PC applications.
