Project Manager - Newbuilding Supervisor

As a Project Manager at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency across shipbuilding and technical projects. This role bridges ship and shore operations, providing critical oversight of construction processes, technical compliance, and project progress while supporting strategic initiatives and fostering collaboration among owners, shipyards, and classification societies.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct assessments of shipyards, subcontractors, and manufacturers to verify compliance with quality and operational standards.
Support the Site Manager in managing site offices and meeting project requirements.
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests, inspections, and sea trials; prepare detailed reports in line with company standards.
Prepare comprehensive technical inspection reports, identify corrective actions, and implement approved measures to enhance project performance.
Review technical documents, including specifications and drawings, and provide feedback to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Coordinate with Owners, Shipyards, and Classification Societies on all project-related matters.
Assist senior management with business development initiatives and support technical monitoring of project quality and progress.
Manage office-related tasks and assist colleagues with daily activities to improve overall efficiency.
Provide weekly progress reports and updates on project issues to senior leadership.
Review weekly and monthly site office reports, and liaise with Owners regarding project updates and requirements.
Organize and review Quality Management System (QMS) processes and arrange quarterly site manager meetings.
Evaluate training needs for site team members and coordinate appropriate courses with senior management.
Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes to propose improvements and solutions.
Attend training programs to maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards.
Conduct annual performance assessments of site team members and contribute to yearly planning directives.
Review company progress over the past 12 months with senior management and contribute to planning directives for the upcoming year.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional certifications in vessel construction and site supervision (e.g., Welding Engineer, Electrical certification).
Certificate in Management.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in project management within the maritime shipbuilding industry.
Extensive experience in newbuilding, ship ownership, or ship management within the past decade.
Background in shipyard quality control, construction management, or technical supervision preferred.
Experience in newbuilding supervision and involvement in at least five plan approval projects
Exposure to various vessel types (e.g., Cruise Passenger Vessel, PSV, AHTS, FPSO).
Skills & Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of vessel requirements and regulations.
Familiarity with shipyards and maritime industry practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong project management and organizational abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in English for operational and safety communication.
Computer literacy.
