Assistant LPSQ Superintendent
As an Assistant LPSQ Superintendent at BSM, you will be responsible for supporting the continuous enhancement of safety, environmental protection, and quality performance across assigned vessels. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with evolving legislation and industry standards, strengthening the connection between ship and shore teams, and promoting a proactive safety culture aligned with operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Support the identification of legislative changes related to LPSQ and contribute to the development and updating of local rules, standards, and procedures.
Ensure accurate implementation of LPSQ processes and improvements on assigned vessels in line with regulatory and industry standards.
Monitor the application of environmental policies on board and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness.
Identify and analyze risks associated with LPSQ processes to support proactive decision-making and safeguard seafarers and the environment.
Participate in the development of onboard investigation plans and conduct vessel visits to assess compliance with LPSQ requirements.
Assist in investigating incidents, preparing relevant reports, recommending improvements, and monitoring corrective action implementation.
Conduct ISM and other shipboard audits to maintain required accreditations and ensure accurate documentation of findings.
Prepare reports and documentation on LPSQ matters for submission to ship owners, clients, and management.
Coordinate with external authorities, auditors, and supervisory bodies to support effective execution of external audits.
Carry out performance appraisals for senior officers on assigned vessels, identify training needs, and provide onboard training where required.
Contribute to the continual improvement of the Company Management System in alignment with regulatory and customer requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
At least 3 years of sailing experience; or,
At least 3 years of experience in an HSEQ / LPSQ function or similar.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of quality, environmental, and safety standards.
Good understanding of legislation related to quality and safety.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in customer management and understanding of local/regional maritime market conditions.
Effective people management skills.
Excellent command of the local national language and fluency in English.
Strong PC literacy.
